In their second forum, SGORR shared the following statistics: African-Americans comprise 13 percent of the U.S. population and are consistently documented by the U.S. government to use drugs at similar rates to people of other races. However, they comprise 29 percent of those arrested for drug law violations, and nearly 40 percent of those incarcerated in state or federal prison for drug law violations. Similarly, Latinos make up 18 percent of the U.S. population, but comprise 38 percent of people incarcerated in federal prisons for drug offenses.

Chad Anderson is a Shaker Heights community member who serves as a co-chairman of the For Shaker Library committee, which aims to pass Issue 7. He served on the Shaker Heights Public Library Board of Trustees from 2008 to 2017, including a term as president. He and his wife Eileen reside in Shaker, and their two children attended Shaker schools.

As threats of violence made by an anonymous Instagram user circulated among students, Interim Principal James Reed III made a P.A. announcement at 8:47 a.m. instructing staff to check email. The email message stated that the threat was being investigated but did not instruct teachers whether or how to communicate with students. More than 600 students left the building in the next few hours. The student who allegedly made the threats was later arrested and at 9:45 p.m., Superintendent Gregory C. Hutchings, Jr. posted news of the arrest to shaker.org.
