Cross Country
The men’s and women’s cross country teams both participated in the OHSAA District meet on Saturday. The men’s team took home a fourth place finish behind fifth and sixth place performances from senior Vivek Divakarla and junior DeAndre Hall, respectively. The women’s team earned a first place finish overall, fueled by top five finishes from junior Avery Blaszak, sophomore Mia Compton-Engle, and senior Juliet Tonkin. Both teams qualified for the regional meet, which takes place this Saturday.
The women’s soccer team won a hard fought 2-1 tournament match over Brecksville on Tuesday. Senior Kenzie Trotter and junior Caroline Brancato scored the goals for Shaker. Their next game will be this Monday against North Royalton.
The volleyball team’s season came to an end on Wednesday following a tough 3-2 loss to Madison. After going down two sets to one, Shaker rallied to force a fifth set, which they lost 15-9, knocking them out of the playoffs.
The field hockey team easily beat Kent Roosevelt 11-0 on Wednesday. Senior Lora Clarke had a hat trick in Shaker’s 11 goal shutout win. Junior Hilary Shakelton, junior Lily Camp, and junior Eliza Bennett all added two goals as well.
The football team lost their game to Mentor on Saturday 45-7. Shaker’s lone touchdown was a fourth quarter touchdown pass from sophomore Adam Diaz to senior Dakota Cochran. The Raiders’ next opponent is Medina at home this Saturday.
