Winter Weather Postpones Shaker Basketball’s Semifinal Contest
Tonight’s Shaker men’s basketball’s regional semifinal match up against Cleveland East Technical has been rescheduled to tomorrow at 6:15 p.m, Shaker.org reports.
“We will still be hungry,” junior Kaleb Roy said. “We can wait to show people how hard we’ve been working.”
A massive winter storm is sweeping through the midwestern and northeastern United States and has been dubbed Vulcan by weather outlets. The Weather Channel issued a winter storm warning at 4:29 a.m. to be in effect from 8 AM today to 2 AM tomorrow morning.
Up to 10 inches of snow in areas subjected to the lake effect can be expected. A predicted glaze of ice will make travel on untreated surfaces dangerous as well, the Weather Channel warned. All of these factors have contributed to speculation about the game, which will be played at Cleveland State University’s Wolstein Center.
More than 400 schools in the greater Cleveland area cancelled classes this morning. Shaker schools have cancelled all after school-activities. The decision to play the basketball game rests with the OHSAA, however.
The postponement is the second cancellation of the season for Shaker basketball, the first coming against Twinsburg on Dec. 10, a non-conference game that was not rescheduled. Saturday’s regional final has not changed and is still at 7 p.m. at the Wolstein Center.
“We all don’t want to see it get cancelled, but at the same time giving the team another day to prepare would also work in our favor,” Roy said.
