An All-Around Standout

Sophomore Wilder Geier’s tennis talent is just one reason why he is the May Raider of the Month

Everyone has something good to say about Wilder Geier.

From the court to the classroom, varsity tennis player Geier excels, and his teammates, coach and teachers are quick to acknowledge it.

“You know, he really puts his heart on the court every match,” varsity tennis player Aidan Stiboria said.

Returning to his first singles spot this year as a sophomore, Wilder’s current record is 6-4. As first singles player for the men’s varsity team, Geier plays opposing schools’ top players.

Teammates are not the only ones who see Geier’s passion for the sport.

“He has improved year over year. I saw him last year. He’s always got a smile on his face and keeps trying until the last point,” tennis parent Jim Sophia said. “I’d be proud to be his parent. It’s fun to watch him play tennis because you can tell how much he loves it out there.”

Geier’s commitment does not end at the baseline. He’s also a dedicated student.

“I would rate his work ethic as high,” science teacher John O’verko said. “Wilder is very active in a lot of activities, but he is very conscientious.”
On the strength of his all-around performance as a student-athlete, including winning a sportsmanship award at a tournament, Geier is The Shakerite’s May Raider of the Month. Check out the video story here.
