Middle School Employee Placed on Paid Administrative Leave

Pending the outcome of an investigation by law enforcement, the district announced on March 23 that a middle school employee has been placed on paid administrative leave

The district sent a March 23 email to inform families that a middle school employee has been placed on paid administrative leave, pending the outcome of an investigation by law enforcement.

Cleveland 19 Action News published a March 23 story titled “Family says boy with special needs was assaulted at Shaker Middle School.”

According to the story, “The police report was made on March 17. A 14-year-old boy tells officials he was assaulted at school during the school day. His mom took him to the hospital that evening to get examined. His family said the boy has special needs.”

Following the WOIO story, the district sent an email to middle school parents and guardians which stated, “This letter is to inform you that a Middle School employee has been placed on paid administrative leave, pending the outcome of an investigation by law enforcement. We are committed to ensuring our students’ safety and we will continue to cooperate with law enforcement. We will provide you with more information as it becomes available.”

The placement of this Shaker employee on paid administrative leave comes just over a month after social studies teacher and IB Diploma Programme Coordinator Timothy Mitchell was placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation by law enforcement on Feb. 21.

Executive Director of Communications Scott Stephens would not comment further than the district’s statement.

“There is nothing we are going to say beyond that statement,” Stephens said.

The Shakerite will cover this story as it develops.
