Camryn Dozier (‘26) is in her third year with The Shakerite and is currently the Photo Editor. She has her photos displayed on covers and in stories. Her photos were published in five print editions last year. Outside of The Shakerite, Camryn paints, plays violin and guitar and volunteers.

A student at the head of the line awaits a turn to pass through the OpenGate weapons-detection system in the high school egress Jan. 23. Students entered the high school through the egress, front entrance or lower cafeteria, where systems were in place for the first time today.

Sophomore Isahq Shaheed and junior Maysun Abdush-Shaheed wait while Director of Security Vic Ferrell and Interim Principal Isaiah Wyatt check their backpacks in the egress Jan. 23. Students whose backpacks triggered the system underwent secondary screenings.

Aden Sowell, a sophomore, holds his belongings while his backpack is inspected in the egress Jan. 23. Students were instructed to remove from backpacks three-ring binders, Chromebooks, spiral notebooks phones, airPods and headphones before passing through detection. If the system alerted, students' bags were inspected manually.

Freshman Nora Novak awaits a chance to set aside objects known to trigger the system before proceeding through screening in the main entrance Jan. 23.

The lower cafeteria offered two screening lines Jan. 23. Students shuffled their excluded belongings along cafeteria tables before passing through the system, much like air travelers undergoing TSA screening. After completing their turn, students stuffed their belongings back into their bags.

Smith takes off from the starting line Oct. 5 at the Legends XC Meet.
