From Netflix to Diversity, Shaker Thanks Abound
As Thanksgiving approaches, Shaker community members are getting ready for turkey and gratitude.
Most students and staff agree on one thing: they are grateful for friends and family. “I’m thankful for a lot of people in my life, like my friends and family, who accept me,” freshman Julia Schmitt-Palumbo said.
“I’m thankful for this day of life,” security guard Claude Green said.
Students are thankful for a range of things, from Netflix to a safe place to sleep. “[I am thankful for Netflix and] how it can bring my friends together when we’re discussing a show. My friends and I can have some pretty interesting and funny conversations,” junior Grace Meyer stated.
Meyer also said she was thankful for time off of school.
Thanksgiving break this year started Nov. 18 and goes through Nov. 27. Students and teachers are traveling and spending time with family. Shaker alumni are coming back from college or taking time off work and their busy schedules to celebrate with their families.
Sophomore Cece Zagara stated, “[I am thankful for] being part of such a diverse community where I can learn how other races and types of people can interact together without being persecuted and hated, and having teachers and coaches who genuinely care.”
Freshman Monet Jones said, “I’m thankful for my friends and family and all the people who care about me and everything I get throughout my life.”
