Some of the 200 million people expected to tune into Super Bowl LVII will no doubt do so just to see what Taylor Swift is wearing.
The game will be played in Las Vegas in a domed stadium, so Swift may not need the colorful puffer jacket that Kristin Juszczyk designed for her using the jersey of Swift’s boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. That jacket came in handy when the Chiefs played a cold home game Jan. 13.
Juszczyk, a self-taught designer and wife of San Francisco 49ers fullback Kyle Juszczyk, reached a licensing agreement with the NFL Jan. 29 so she can use team logos on items she designs and sells in the future. The NFL makes more than $4 billion a year from sales of licensed products such as jerseys, shirts and hats, which are sold at prices far greater than their cost of production.
If the jacket Juszczyk made for Swift is produced for sale to fans, would Shaker buy it?
Some students and staff were down to wear the jacket. “I would totally wear it,” said Dr. Elizabeth Mangan, instructional coach. “I love the homemade uniqueness of it. The max I would pay is $100.”
“I really like the jacket,” said senior Josh Crayton. “I would wear it, but it’s probably too expensive for me, though. I really like the lettering, and how it resembles the real Travis Kelce Chiefs home jersey with the red and white.”
Dean of Students Greg Zannelli, however, is not keen on it. “It’s not my style,” he said. “The most I would pay is $2.79.”
Sydney Thornton, a sophomore, is not impressed. “It’s ugly, and I would pay ZERO dollars,” she said. “I wouldn’t even wear it for free.”
