Raiders Squeeze by Mount Notre Dame in OT
The Raider field hockey team won today’s state semi-final 2-1 in overtime.
Shaker trailed 1-0 with less than five minutes to play, but junior midfielder Jessica Morford scored off of a corner to tie the game with 3:25 left. The Raiders advanced to sudden death overtime, and senior Kasidy Anderson scored the game-winning goal off of a corner with 3:05 to go.
Shaker will contend for the state championship tomorrow at 1 p.m. and will face the Columbus Academy Vikings. Columbus Academy has a storied program, with 10 state titles to their credit.
The Vikings defeated the Bishop Watterson Eagles to advance to the state final. Shaker fell to the Eagles 3-2 in the regular season — which was the Raiders’ only actual loss of the season. Shaker’s regular season record changed from 15-1 to 4-12 because of a player’s accidental violation of an OHSAA rule.
This is Shaker’s first appearance in the state final since 1995. The Raiders reached the state semi-final last year, losing 2-1 to Thomas Worthington. The team’s lone state title came in 1991.
