The Shaker Football team will have a winning record for the first time since 2005.
With its 55-0 win over Valley Forge Oct. 6, Shaker guaranteed itself a winning season. Now 6-1, Shaker won more games this year than the past three years combined. The team has scored 312 points this season compared to 179 last year.
Shaker gained 482 yards of offense against Valley Forge. Senior quarterback Jimmy Pope threw for five touchdowns, while junior running back Ramses Owens rushed for two touchdowns.
As of Oct. 9, the team is currently ranked 9 in the Ohio High School Athletic Association football poll and 23 in the Plain Dealer High School Football Poll. The Top 8 teams in each region of the OHSAA poll make the playoffs.
Shaker finishes the season with Brush Oct. 12 (4-3), Garfield Heights Oct. 20 (2-5), and Normandy Oct. 25 (1-6).
