Seniors B’Lise Bradley and Lizzy Favret signed Division I letters of intent yesterday during the Athletic Department’s winter sports media day.
Bradley will play volleyball at James Madison University. Favret will play basketball at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
The signing ceremony, held in the North Gym, began with messages of thanks from both Bradley and Favret. Bradley, who led the volleyball team as a captain, thanked God, her family, friends and coaches.
“The journey to this point hasn’t been easy and was filled with trials and tribulations,” the 6-foot-5-inch middle blocker said.
Favret acknowledged the support she received during her journey. “Thank you to everyone,” Favret said. “I can’t even explain my gratitude and my excitement for the next four years.”
The ceremony ended with members of athletes’ families, teams and friends expressing respect for the dedication and drive the two showed throughout their years at SHHS.
In interviews after the ceremony, both athletes reflected on the intense focus required to become Division I recruits. “I had to miss out on a lot of parties — birthday parties, and other things. I had to stay committed and be in the gym all the time,” Bradley said.
“I’ve had so many days of training, lifting and conditioning — all that just goes into it,” Favret said.
The two recalled some of the high points of their high school careers. “My favorite memory ever was when we beat Mentor at home last year because it was a crazy upset,” Favret said.
“One of my favorite memories was traveling with my club volleyball teammates to cities such as [Las] Vegas and Kansas City,” Bradley said.
Each identified similar goals for their collegiate careers. Bradley said, “I just want to make a difference.”
