Two members of the English Department will cover Podl’s classes during her leave.

English teacher Jody Podl has been placed on paid administrative leave, according to an email sent to some parents.

The suspension does not involve state laws or Ohio Department of Education policies.

As of 6:46 p.m., Executive Director of Communications Scott Stephens was not available for further comment.

“We cannot provide any additional information, as this is a personnel matter,” Principal Jonathan Kuehnle stated in the email.

Parents and students have written to the Board of Education in support of Podl.

English teacher Victoria Schmidt will take on Podl’s Advanced Placement Composition class and Marina Wasserman will cover her two 11 English Advanced/IB classes for the duration of the leave.

The Shakerite will continue to cover this story as it develops.
