Shaker Ranks among Top 3 in Northeast Ohio’s National Merit Semifinalists

Following the announcement of 2014’s National Merit Semifinalists, Shaker ranks third in Northeast Ohio, with 12 qualifying students.

Shaker ranks behind Solon High School and St. Ignatius High School, with 20 and 13 semifinalists, respectively. National Merit Semifinalists received the highest scores in their state on the 2012 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

Peggy Caldwell, Director of Communications, is thrilled by the news. “We had a good year, a very strong class of seniors this year,” she said. “I’m very proud of them and we expect more good news when the other semifinalists are announced.”

The National Achievement Semifinalists, National Merit Commended Students, National Achievement Commended Students and National Hispanic Semifinalists have yet to be announced.

In light of the report card, “we continue to have a large number of students who do exceptionally well,” Caldwell said. “We need to do our best to maintain that strength, and we need to focus on students who are not achieving up to their potential.”
